                       Use of Article 
                            

                                   A
       ૧- એકવચન નામનો ઉચ્ચાર વ્યંજનથી શરૂ થતો હોય તો તે એકવચન નામની આગળ A મુકાય છે.
             દા.ત.- a pen ,a boy

      એકવચન નામની શરૂઆત સ્વરથી થતી હોય પરંતુ ઉચ્ચાર વ્યંજન થતો હોય તો નામની આગળ A મુકવો.
              દા.ત.- a university , a one rupee note

•     જે એકવચન નામનો ઉચ્ચાર સ્વરથી થાય તેની આગળ AN મુકાય છે.                   સ્વર કુલ પાંચ છે:- A,E,I,O,U

• દા.ત.:- an ink point, an umbrella

• એકવચનની શરૂઆત વ્યંજનથી થતી  હોય પણ ઉચ્ચાર સ્વર માં  થતો હોય ત્યારે એકવચનની આગળ AN આવે છે.

• દા.ત.:- an hour માં h silent છે. તેનો ઉચ્ચાર અવર થાય છે, માટે ત્યાં an hour આવે.

                                    THE
The:- નિશ્ચિાત આર્ટિકલ કહેવાય છે,કારણ કે તે 'અમુક' 'ચોક્કસ' વસ્તુ એવો ભાવ દર્શાવે છે.


  'The' articleના ઉપયોગો:-

•  જે વસ્તુનો પહેલા અનિશ્ચાિત વસ્તુ તરીકે ઉલ્લેખ થયો હોય તે જ વસ્તુનો ફરી ઉલ્લેખ કરીયે ત્યારે તે અમુક ચોક્કસ વસ્તુ ગણાય છે. તેથી તેની આગળ 'the ' article મુકાય છે.

      દા.ત.:- I saw a bird.The bird was green.

• જાતિવાચક નામ અમુક ચોક્કસ જાતિ કે પ્રાણી નહિ પણ તેનો આખો સમુહ સૂચવે ત્યારે આગળ the મુકાય છે.

      દા.ત.:- The cow is a useful animal.

• સામાન્ય રીતે સંઞાવાચક નામ આગળ Article મુકાતો નથી પણ નદીઓ,મહાસાગરો,પર્વતોવી હારમાળા ,પ્રખ્યાત ઇમારતો , ગ્રંથો, પ્રાંતો , ખંડો, પ્રજાઓ, સનાતન પદાર્થોની આગળ The article મુકાય છે.

      દા.ત.:-   The Ganga,The Himalayas,The Ramayana,The Punjab etc.

• વિશેષણ આખી જાતિ સૂચવે ત્યારે તેની આગળ The મુકાય છે. જેમ કે The blind,The black,Tha white.

        દા.ત.:- We should help the blind.

• શ્રેષ્ઠતાવાચક વિશેષણ આગળ એટલે કે Superlative degreeમાં The article મુકાય છે.

       દા.ત.-: Ramesh is tha cleverest boy in the classroom.

• બે અધિકતાવાચક રૂપોની રચનામાં અધિકતાવાચક રૂપની આગળ The Article મુકાય છે.

      દા.ત.:- The more they spend,the more they want.

• કોઇપણ સંઞાવાચક નામનો ઉપયોગ જાતિવાચક નામ તરીકે થયો હોય ત્યારે તે નામની આગળ The Article વપરાય છે.

      દા.ત.:- Kalidas is the Shakespeare of India.

• સંખ્યાવાચક વિશેષણની આગળ The મુકાય છે.

   દા.ત.:- The first,the second,the next.

• All,Both,અને Half વિશેષણ તરીકે વપરાય ત્યારે તેની પછી The મુકાય છે.

   દા.ત.:- All the girls stood in a queue.

• મુખપત્રો કે સમાચારપત્રના નામની આગળ The મુકાય છે.

       દા.ત.:- I read the Times of India every day.

• ટાપુઓના નામની આગળ The મુકાય છે.

     દા.ત.:- The Andaman is an island.

• રાજ્યોના સ્વતંત્ર એકમો મળીને દેશ બને ત્યારે તે દેશના નામની આગળ The મુકાય છે.

       દા.ત.:- The U.S.S.R.,The U.S.A.
